Ever since I was in the Fifth grade and My mother handed me my first pink tube of Maybelline Great Lash Mascara I have had a complicated on and off again relationship with mascara. Being the makeup junkie that I am and also having a serious thing for long dark lashes I have embarked on a long, tedious journey to find the perfect one. There have been good times and bad, very bad times but I still haven't found my mascara soul mate. So if you are like me and you long for that illusive blend of just the right type of brush combined with the perfect water resistant*, no flaky formula of black goodness, then enjoy my reviews and hopefully they will make your search a little easier...
#1. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
This was the first mascara I ever used. It is a great product and I often revert back to it after months of trying different ones when I get fed up. However, I just can't get past the teeny tiny brush on the wand. I like a brush that's bigger because they tend to prevent clumping better in my opinion.
#2. Benefit Bad Gal Lash
I really like this mascara. The wand is an excellent size and I love how long it makes my lashes look. My only complaint about Bad Gal is that I look fantastic when I leave the house but by midday I look tired because it tends to run. Bleh the raccoon look is not pretty.
#3. Rimmel Max Volume Lash
This one was tricky. I really thought I had found a winner with this one. Nice wand etc...but after about a week it became all thick and nasty in the tube and it went on all cakey and it was impossible to get off with any kind of eye makeup remover. Thumbs down Rimmel.
#4. DiorShow Mascara
I liked this one okay and my friend Andrea would slap me for saying anything negative about this mascara because apparently it has a cult following but this mascara and I had no chemistry. It left little crumbs on my face and I hate that more than anything in a mascara. Also its a little on the pricey side. I could get a new m.a.c. eyeshadow for less than the cost of this mascara. I don't like to spend a fortune on a product that I have to replace every three months, unless I love it.
#5 Maybelline The Colossal Volume Mascara
This is my current mascara, although the version I have has sparkles in it. It seemed like sparkly mascara was a great idea at first because I love anything sparkled but you can't really see them and this one is also flaky. I love the wand though.
