Lately I've been obsessed with making wreaths with felt flowers and leaves. I thought I'd share my method for making a felt daisy with you. It's way fun! Here we go...
Supplies Needed:
Scissors, sewing needle, colored embroidery floss, two different colors of felt, buttons, and a hot glue gun.
Step One:
Cut out five petals of equal size. For consistency use the first one you cut as a stencil by cutting around it. It should look something like this:
Step Two:
Choose a contrasting color of felt. Place one of your already cut petals on top of the contrasting color of felt like so:
Step Three:
Cut around the petal but slightly away from the edge so that the color peaks out. Like this:
repeat with the remaining petals.
Step Four:
Next thread your needle with the colored embroidery floss. I used a different color than the felt to make the stitching pop. I chose not to separate the floss because I like a thicker line. Do a running stitch up the center of the petal with small spaces in between and stop just shy of the top.
Step Five:
After you're finished stitching all of your petals, take one and fold it in half, pinching the base of the petal, and push your needle straight through.
Step Six:
Continue this until all of the petals have been strung together.
Step Seven:
After you've strung the last of the petals together and pulled tight, loop the needle through the base of the first petal again and pull tight. Knot your thread on the back and trim the excess.
Step Eight:
Finally, put a dab of hot glue in the center of your flower and add a button to complete it.
Ta Da! Your flower is finished!
You can use your flowers for a number of projects, a wreath like I did, or a hair accessory, you could make a whole bouquet!
Happy Crafting!
